The Institute for Korean Studies hosts a Korean speech contest annually in the spring semester for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students with awards for each category.
**The contest is open to current IU students. Priority is given to those enrolled in Korean language classes.
This year's contest will be held on: Thursday, March 27th, 2025, 5:30pm in GISB 1134
Levels,Topics, and Timing:
Beginner Level, 2 minutes
Learning Korean: The reason for learning Korean, experiences while learning Korean, how I learned Korean, etc.
My Hobby: My favorite activities, introducing my hobby, etc.
My Daily Life: Introducing my daily life, my school life, close friends, simple activities or experiences.
Intermediate, 3 minutes
Introduction of Korean Culture: My favorite Korean culture, introduction of Korean culture, etc.
Effective Method of Learning Languages: Your personal way that was effective for helping you learn Korean
My Travel Experience: Introduce your travel experiences, travel destinations, etc.
Advanced, 4 minutes
Current Korean Issues: Looking at and debating current issues in Korean society such as gender discrimination, low birth rate, etc.
Topics Related to Multicultural Society: Cultural conflict and differences, idenities, etc.
Intercultural Comparison: Introduction and comparison of Korean culture with American Culture (or culture of home country)
Prizes for each level:
1st place: $100
2nd place: $75
3rd place: $50
